Different Body Building Supplements and What They Do

There are many different supplements around that can help with body-building, some good and some bad. There are many different proponents of each of these supplements. There are just as many people that would bad-mouth each of these supplements. The purpose of this article is to give you an objective view on three of the main supplements that are doing the rounds in body-building circles.
- Protein- Protein naturally occurs in meat. As such, opponents of protein supplements suggest that you should be able to get your supply of protein purely from natural foods. Those that are in favour of protein supplements argue that they enable you to measure exactly the amount of protein you are ingesting, as well as allowing you to protein load for massive muscle build up without eating too much meat.
- Creatine- Creatine is a supplement designed to increase energy. This means that you will have more power when you are weightlifting. As such, you can lift heavier weights and build muscle faster. Those opposed to creatine point to the fact that if not ingested quickly, creatine can produce the side effect of kidney problems.
- Steroids- Steroid use is illegal in professional body-building competitions and elite sports because of its potentially dangerous side effects including cardiovascular disease and depression. The reason that many body builders take steroids despite these side effects include- to increase muscle size and strength, to speed recovery time, to increase energy levels during workouts, to increase the oxidation rise of fat.
These are some of the most popular supplements used in body-building and this article has given you a quick, objective overview on each of them and does not advocate it’s use. You must remember that before you even think of taking any type of bodybuilding supplement you should weight the risks along with the benefits and discuss it with your health care provider.
